Supermarket Flower - Fashion and Print Design Collection
ZEHUA WU SS18
Project Brief: The Supermarket Flower collection zoomed in on the world of flowers, bringing in the inspiration of the flowers sprouted in unnatural environments instead of their true habitats. By documenting the intriguing places flowers would uncommonly grow in, we were captivated by the supermarket flowers that aptly revealed and concealed their nature and beauty. Even though traversed from their original habitat, supermarket flowers celebrate a mysterious vitality of artificial nature. Through de- and re-construction of flower conformations, we emphasized the influence of change through prints of these flowers. By expressing delicacy yet boldness through these prints, our designs in this collection reflect her desire to make visible an emblem to capture the transformations of life in response to disparate surroundings, constantly changing and adapting.

This print collection delves into my profound connection with flowers, particularly those discovered in unexpected settings rather than their natural habitats. The layered structure of these blooms both unveils and conceals their inherent nature and beauty. As I roamed the streets, I documented flowers in uncommon places, like the supermarket, capturing their essence. By reimagining their compositions, I transformed these moments into captivating prints. Through the delicate yet bold nature of these prints, I find an authentic reflection of my own journey—navigating a foreign environment, ever-evolving through personal growth and influenced by the community that surrounds me.
